Is an electric car cheaper to run than a gas car?
Per mile, almost always when charged at home: an EV using 28 kWh per 100 miles at 18¢ a kWh costs about 5¢ a mile, against 15¢ for a 30 mpg car at $4.50 a gallon. Whether it is cheaper to own also depends on price, depreciation and insurance, which the EV total cost of ownership calculator adds up.
