How the Andhra Pradesh Solar Calculator (APSPDCL) works
Saving₍y₎ = [Bill(U) − Bill(U − G₍y₎/12)] × 12 × (1 + e)^(y−1), G₍y₎ = kW × H × 365 × PR × (1 − d)^(y−1)This page uses the same method as the Solar ROI Calculator India, which explains each term and assumption in full.
Worked example
A Andhra Pradesh home on APSPDCL with a ₹2,500 monthly bill and a flat RCC roof, assuming prices rise 5% a year.
- 1Working the bill back through the APSPDCL slabs, charges and duty gives about 366 units a month
- 2At 5.5 peak sun hours, 3 kW makes about 386 units a month, 100% of that use
- 33 kW at ₹60,000 per kW costs ₹1,80,000; PM Surya Ghar pays ₹78,000, leaving ₹1,02,000
- 4The first year saves ₹29,942, and the saving grows as tariffs rise
The system pays for itself in about 3.2 years and leaves the household about ₹12,31,751 ahead over 25 years.
Frequently asked questions
Does this cover APEPDCL and APCPDCL as well?
Yes. APERC sets one domestic tariff for all three Andhra Pradesh DISCOMs: APEPDCL in the north including Visakhapatnam, APCPDCL around Vijayawada and Guntur, and APSPDCL in the south including Tirupati and Nellore.
Where does solar save the most on an AP bill?
Above 225 units a month, where each unit costs ₹8.75, rising to ₹9.75 above 400. The lower bands are cheap, from ₹1.90, so a system sized to wipe out the top bands earns far more per kW than one covering the whole bill.
How does net metering settle on APSPDCL?
Net metering with the surplus settled yearly at the APERC-approved rate.
