How the Jaipur Solar Calculator (JVVNL) works

Saving₍y₎ = [Bill(U) − Bill(U − G₍y₎/12)] × 12 × (1 + e)^(y−1), G₍y₎ = kW × H × 365 × PR × (1 − d)^(y−1)

This page uses the same method as the Solar ROI Calculator India, which explains each term and assumption in full.

Worked example

A Jaipur home on JVVNL with a ₹2,500 monthly bill and a flat RCC roof, assuming prices rise 5% a year.

  1. 1Working the bill back through the JVVNL slabs, charges and duty gives about 287 units a month
  2. 2At 5.9 peak sun hours, 2 kW makes about 276 units a month, 96% of that use
  3. 32 kW at ₹60,000 per kW costs ₹1,20,000; PM Surya Ghar pays ₹60,000 and the Rajasthan state top-up ₹17,000, leaving ₹43,000
  4. 4The first year saves ₹27,395, and the saving grows as tariffs rise

The system pays for itself in about 1.5 years and leaves the household about ₹11,58,893 ahead over 25 years.

Frequently asked questions

Why do fixed charges fall when solar is installed in Rajasthan?

Rajasthan sets the domestic fixed charge by the month's billed units: ₹150 up to 150 units, rising to ₹800 above 500. Under net metering the billed units are what remains after solar, so a smaller net bill also drops you into a lower fixed-charge band.

How much does a kW of panels make in Jaipur?

About 4.5 units a day on average, or around 1,650 a year, among the highest in India, thanks to close to six peak sun hours a day. A home using 300 units a month needs only a little over 2 kW.

How does net metering settle on JVVNL?

Net metering with surplus settled yearly at the RERC-approved rate.
