How the Gurugram Solar Calculator (DHBVN) works

Saving₍y₎ = [Bill(U) − Bill(U − G₍y₎/12)] × 12 × (1 + e)^(y−1), G₍y₎ = kW × H × 365 × PR × (1 − d)^(y−1)

This page uses the same method as the Solar ROI Calculator India, which explains each term and assumption in full.

Worked example

A Gurugram home on DHBVN with a ₹3,000 monthly bill and a flat RCC roof, assuming prices rise 5% a year.

  1. 1Working the bill back through the DHBVN slabs, charges and duty gives about 498 units a month
  2. 2At 5.3 peak sun hours, 4 kW makes about 497 units a month, 100% of that use
  3. 34 kW at ₹55,000 per kW costs ₹2,20,000; PM Surya Ghar pays ₹78,000, leaving ₹1,42,000
  4. 4The first year saves ₹35,921, and the saving grows as tariffs rise

The system pays for itself in about 3.7 years and leaves the household about ₹14,29,595 ahead over 25 years.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for UHBVN too?

Yes. HERC sets one domestic tariff for both Haryana DISCOMs, so a home on UHBVN in Panchkula, Karnal or Sonipat is billed the same way as one on DHBVN in Gurugram, Faridabad or Hisar.

Why does crossing 300 units matter on DHBVN?

Category II homes pay no fixed charge up to 300 units a month, then ₹50 a kW of sanctioned load above it, alongside the jump to ₹6.45 a unit. Solar that keeps net use under 300 saves the fixed charge as well as the units.

How does net metering settle on DHBVN?

Net metering with banked units carried forward within the financial year and the surplus settled at the HERC-approved rate.
