How the Mumbai Solar Calculator (Adani Electricity) works
Saving₍y₎ = [Bill(U) − Bill(U − G₍y₎/12)] × 12 × (1 + e)^(y−1), G₍y₎ = kW × H × 365 × PR × (1 − d)^(y−1)This page uses the same method as the Solar ROI Calculator India, which explains each term and assumption in full.
Worked example
A Mumbai home on Adani Electricity with a ₹3,500 monthly bill and a flat RCC roof, assuming prices rise 5% a year.
- 1Working the bill back through the Adani Electricity slabs, charges and duty gives about 369 units a month
- 2At 5.4 peak sun hours, 3 kW makes about 379 units a month, 100% of that use
- 33 kW at ₹60,000 per kW costs ₹1,80,000; PM Surya Ghar pays ₹78,000, leaving ₹1,02,000
- 4The first year saves ₹41,089, and the saving grows as tariffs rise
The system pays for itself in about 2.4 years and leaves the household about ₹17,27,804 ahead over 25 years.
Frequently asked questions
Can a flat in a Mumbai building install rooftop solar?
Rarely on its own: the terrace belongs to the society, and a high-rise roof is small for the number of flats. Most Mumbai installations are society systems for common areas such as lifts, pumps and lighting, which get ₹18,000 a kW from PM Surya Ghar. The housing society solar calculator works those out per flat.
Does solar cut the wheeling charge on an Adani Electricity bill?
Yes. Under net metering the wheeling charge, about ₹2.28 a unit, is levied on the net units you draw from the grid, so each unit solar offsets saves its energy charge, wheeling and 16% duty together.
How does net metering settle on Adani Electricity?
Surplus units are banked month to month and settled once a year at the MERC-approved rate. MERC has confirmed that residential net metering continues under the new ToD meters, with banked units usable at any hour.
