How the Ahmedabad Solar Calculator (Torrent Power) works
Saving₍y₎ = [Bill(U) − Bill(U − G₍y₎/12)] × 12 × (1 + e)^(y−1), G₍y₎ = kW × H × 365 × PR × (1 − d)^(y−1)This page uses the same method as the Solar ROI Calculator India, which explains each term and assumption in full.
Worked example
A Ahmedabad home on Torrent Power with a ₹2,500 monthly bill and a flat RCC roof, assuming prices rise 5% a year.
- 1Working the bill back through the Torrent Power slabs, charges and duty gives about 278 units a month
- 2At 5.8 peak sun hours, 2 kW makes about 272 units a month, 98% of that use
- 32 kW at ₹60,000 per kW costs ₹1,20,000; PM Surya Ghar pays ₹60,000, leaving ₹60,000
- 4The first year saves ₹29,128, and the saving grows as tariffs rise
The system pays for itself in about 2.0 years and leaves the household about ₹12,10,366 ahead over 25 years.
Frequently asked questions
What happens at 200 units a month on Torrent Power?
Up to 200 units, the first 50 cost ₹3.20 and the rest ₹3.95. Above 200, the first 200 units are charged ₹4.10 and every unit after that ₹5.00. Solar that brings a home's net use back under 200 lowers the rate on every unit, not just the top ones.
Does this work for Torrent Power in Surat?
Only roughly. Torrent's Surat consumers are on a separate GERC order with a similar residential structure, so the result is a fair guide but not exact. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar homes are billed on the rates this page uses; the rest of Gujarat is on the state DISCOMs' tariff, as on the PGVCL page.
How does net metering settle on Torrent Power?
Net metering with surplus units bought back by the DISCOM at the GERC rate at the end of each billing cycle.
