Vial strength
Printed on the vial label, e.g. "2.5 mg/mL". Common semaglutide strengths: 1, 2.5, 5 mg/mL.
Your dose
Exactly as written on your prescription. 1 mg is 1,000 mcg.

| Weekly dose | When | Units | mL |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 mg | Weeks 1–4 | 10 units | 0.1 mL |
| 0.5 mg | Weeks 5–8 | 20 units | 0.2 mL |
| 1 mg | Weeks 9–12 | 40 units (over capacity) | 0.4 mL |
| 1.7 mg | Weeks 13–16 | 68 units (over capacity) | 0.68 mL |
| 2.4 mg | Week 17 on (usual maintenance) | 96 units (over capacity) | 0.96 mL |
| 7.2 mg | Only if prescribed after 4+ weeks at 2.4 mg | 288 units (over capacity) | 2.88 mL |
How do you convert mg to units?
Divide the semaglutide dose in mg by the vial's mg/mL and multiply by 100. At the common 2.5 mg/mL strength the label steps are 10, 20, 40, 68 and 96 units for 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.7 and 2.4 mg. At 5 mg/mL every figure halves.
units = dose (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL) × 100This page uses the same method as the GLP-1 Dosage Calculator, which explains each term and assumption in full.
| Weekly dose | When | Units | Volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 mg | Weeks 1–4 | 10 units | 0.1 mL |
| 0.5 mg | Weeks 5–8 | 20 units | 0.2 mL |
| 1 mg | Weeks 9–12 | 40 units | 0.4 mL |
| 1.7 mg | Weeks 13–16 | 68 units | 0.68 mL |
| 2.4 mg | Week 17 on (usual maintenance) | 96 units | 0.96 mL |
| 7.2 mg | Only if prescribed after 4+ weeks at 2.4 mg | 288 units | 2.88 mL |
Worked example
A 0.25 mg semaglutide dose from a 5 mg vial mixed with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water.
- 1Concentration: 5 mg ÷ 2 mL = 2.5 mg/mL
- 2Volume: 0.25 mg ÷ 2.5 mg/mL = 0.1 mL
- 3Units: 0.1 mL × 100 = 10 units
- 4Doses per vial: 5 mg ÷ 0.25 mg = 20
Draw to the 10 units line, on a 0.3 mL (30 units) U-100 insulin syringe.
Frequently asked questions
How many units is 0.25 mg of semaglutide?
It depends on the vial: 25 units at 1 mg/mL, 10 units at 2.5 mg/mL, 5 units at 5 mg/mL. Check the mg/mL on your vial label, or divide the vial's mg by the mL of water you added. See 0.25 mg in units for every strength.
What is the semaglutide dose schedule?
The Wegovy label starts at 0.25 mg once a week for four weeks, then 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 1.7 mg for four weeks each, reaching the usual 2.4 mg maintenance dose at week 17. Since 2026 the label allows up to 7.2 mg for weight reduction after at least four weeks at 2.4 mg. Compounded prescriptions may differ; follow yours.
Why does a 7.2 mg semaglutide dose not fit my syringe?
At 288 units at 2.5 mg/mL, 144 units at 5 mg/mL, 7.2 mg is more than 1 mL, which is more than any U-100 insulin syringe holds. Ask your pharmacy how they want you to give it; do not split a dose or change strengths without their instructions.
