How the Uttar Pradesh Solar Calculator (UPPCL) works
Saving₍y₎ = [Bill(U) − Bill(U − G₍y₎/12)] × 12 × (1 + e)^(y−1), G₍y₎ = kW × H × 365 × PR × (1 − d)^(y−1)This page uses the same method as the Solar ROI Calculator India, which explains each term and assumption in full.
Worked example
A Uttar Pradesh home on UPPCL with a ₹2,500 monthly bill and a flat RCC roof, assuming prices rise 5% a year.
- 1Working the bill back through the UPPCL slabs, charges and duty gives about 350 units a month
- 2At 5 peak sun hours, 3 kW makes about 351 units a month, 100% of that use
- 33 kW at ₹60,000 per kW costs ₹1,80,000; PM Surya Ghar pays ₹78,000 and the UPNEDA state subsidy ₹30,000, leaving ₹72,000
- 4The first year saves ₹25,862, and the saving grows as tariffs rise
The system pays for itself in about 2.7 years and leaves the household about ₹10,27,403 ahead over 25 years.
Frequently asked questions
How much subsidy can a UP household get in total?
Up to ₹1,08,000 for a 3 kW system: ₹78,000 from PM Surya Ghar and ₹30,000 from UPNEDA, which pays ₹15,000 a kW for the first two kilowatts. That brings a typical 3 kW system to well under half its installed price.
Does this cover PVVNL, MVVNL and the other UP DISCOMs?
Yes. UPERC sets one domestic tariff for all five state DISCOMs, PVVNL (Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut), MVVNL (Lucknow), DVVNL (Agra), PuVVNL (Varanasi) and KESCo (Kanpur), so the calculation is the same wherever you are in the state.
How does net metering settle on UPPCL?
Net metering with surplus units settled at the end of the financial year.
