Frequently asked questions

How much tax does a freelancer pay in Mexico in 2026?

On $35 an hour (MX$1,132,413 a year), about 2% of revenue goes to social contributions and income tax as a RESICO (régimen simplificado de confianza), leaving MX$1,053,144 after 5% of costs. 1% to 2.5% of revenue with no deductions, for individuals with revenue up to MXN 3.5 million.

Who can use RESICO?

Individuals with business or professional income up to MXN 3.5 million a year who are not partners in a company and are not tax residents abroad. ISR is 1% to 2.5% of income actually received, with no deductions; above the limit you move to the general regime, taxed at up to 35% on profit.

Why did the ISR tariff change in 2026?

Article 152 requires the brackets to be updated once cumulative inflation passes 10% since the last update. That happened, so Anexo 8 of the 2026 Resolución Miscelánea raised every limit by a factor of 1.1321 from 1 January 2026.

Do clients abroad withhold tax from a freelancer in Mexico?

Services exported to clients abroad are taxed at 0% IVA. Foreign clients do not withhold; you pay monthly ISR through the SAT portal.
