Frequently asked questions

How much tax does a freelancer pay in the Philippines in 2026?

On $15 an hour (₱1,731,902 a year), about 14% of revenue goes to social contributions and income tax as a 8% flat rate, leaving ₱1,401,355 after 5% of costs. 8% of gross receipts above ₱250,000, in place of graduated tax and percentage tax, for receipts up to ₱3 million.

Should I choose the 8% income tax rate?

For most freelancers with few costs, yes. It replaces both graduated income tax and the 3% percentage tax with 8% of gross receipts above ₱250,000, and is open while receipts stay under ₱3 million. Graduated rates with the 40% optional standard deduction only win at higher incomes close to the ₱3 million limit, or with large real costs. You choose in the first quarter's return.

How much SSS does a self-employed Filipino pay in 2026?

15% of the monthly salary credit you declare, from ₱5,000 up to ₱35,000, so at most ₱5,250 a month. PhilHealth is 5% of monthly income between ₱10,000 and ₱100,000, and Pag-IBIG ₱200 a month.

Do clients abroad withhold tax from a freelancer in the Philippines?

Services paid for in foreign currency by clients abroad can be zero-rated for VAT. Clients abroad do not withhold; you file quarterly and annually with the BIR.
