How Mexico's threshold is built

  • Base: 680 × UMA (MX$117.31 a day) = MX$79,771 a month
  • Savings route instead: 11,460 × UMA (MX$117.31 a day) = MX$1,344,373
  • Stay: 1 year, renewable for up to 3 more

Beyond the money

  • The savings route uses the average month-end balance over the last 12 months.
  • Each consulate applies the rules in its own way and some still quote older minimum-wage figures.

How the Mexico Temporary Resident Visa Income Calculator works

Required = Base + Family add-ons, Base = k × Indicator (or a fixed amount), Margin = Income × FX ÷ Required − 1

This page uses the same method as the Digital Nomad Visa Eligibility Checker, which explains each term and assumption in full.

Worked example

A single remote worker earning $5,000 a month, paid in US dollars, applying for Mexico's Temporary Resident Visa (economic solvency).

  1. 1Mexico sets the threshold at 680 × UMA (MX$117.31 a day): MX$79,771 a month, using INEGI, valid 1 February 2026 to 31 January 2027
  2. 2At MX$17.58 per US dollar (ECB, 2026-09-24), $5,000 a month is MX$87,920
  3. 3That is 10% above the line, which is $4,536.54 a month in dollars

They clear Mexico's financial requirement with room to spare.

Frequently asked questions

How much income do I need for the Mexico Temporary Resident Visa (economic solvency) in 2026?

MX$79,771 a month (680 × UMA (MX$117.31 a day)) for a single applicant, read as net income over the last 6 months. Savings of MX$1,344,373 qualify instead. The savings route uses the average month-end balance over the last 12 months.

Does Mexico have a digital nomad visa?

Not a dedicated one. Remote workers use the temporary resident visa, which asks for economic solvency: a monthly income or a savings balance well above what most nomad visas require.

Why do consulates quote different amounts?

New guidelines published in July 2025 moved the thresholds from minimum-wage days to UMA days, and the peso figure changes each February with the UMA. Consulates also convert at their own rate and some take time to update, so confirm the figure with yours.

How is the Temporary Resident Visa (economic solvency) taxed?

Temporary residents who make Mexico their home are tax resident and owe tax on worldwide income.
