How is a micro-SaaS valued?
A paid Chrome extension on $4,000 MRR, growing organically 3% a month with 6% churn, is worth about $82,500 (2.1× SDE). Low costs and no ad spend help; high churn, a small size band and dependence on one browser store pull the multiple to the bottom of the range.
SDE = MRR × 12 × gross margin − (operating costs + marketing) × 12
EBITDA = SDE − founder hours × hourly rate × 52
SDE multiple = size-band base + growth + churn + founder + age + platform + concentration + LTV:CAC + margin (1.5× to 8×)
value = w × SDE × SDE multiple + (1 − w) × ARR × ARR multiple, w = 0 at 10% SDE margin rising to 1 at 40%This page uses the same method as the Micro-SaaS Valuation Calculator, which explains each term and assumption in full.
Worked example
A two-year-old Chrome extension on $4,000 MRR from $8 a month subscriptions, all organic from Web Store search, growing 3% a month with 6% monthly churn, 90% margin, and 8 hours a week of the founder's time.
- 1ARR: $48,000; gross profit at 90%: $43,200
- 2SDE: $43,200 − $4,800 of costs and marketing = $38,400
- 3Base multiple for SDE of under $50k: 2.5×
- 4Adjustments: platform risk: high −0.70; growing 30 to 60% a year +0.40; churn 4 to 6% a month −0.40; organic acquisition, no paid spend +0.25; gross margin 80% or more +0.10
- 5SDE multiple: 2.15×, so $38,400 × 2.15× = $82,500
- 6Revenue cross-check: 2.8× ARR = $136,000; weight on profit 100%
About $82,500, within $63,500 to $102,000: 20.6× MRR, and 6.1× EBITDA after paying $24,960 a year for the founder's hours.
Frequently asked questions
Why do Chrome extensions sell for low multiples?
They are small, churn quickly and live inside one store. Most paid extensions earn under $50,000 a year, the lowest size band; cheap monthly plans churn at 5 to 10%; and Google can delist an extension or change the extension platform, as the Manifest V3 move did. Buyers pay for proven organic installs, so show your install and conversion trends.
Does a free extension with many users have any value?
Some, but not on this calculator, which values earnings. Free extensions sell on users, typically for a few dollars per weekly active user, to buyers who plan to monetise them; the Web Store's policies on selling and changing ownership apply. Once it has paying users, enter their MRR here.
What multiple does a Chrome extension sell for?
For the business on this page, about 2.1× SDE, or 21× MRR: $82,500 on $4,000 of MRR and $38,400 of annual SDE. Change the inputs above to your own figures; churn, growth and founder hours move the multiple most.
