How is a micro-SaaS valued?
Divide the sale price by MRR. Profitable micro-SaaS businesses typically sell for 20 to 50 times MRR, which is 2 to 4 times ARR. The B2B SaaS example here comes to 23× MRR, $351,000 on $15,000 a month, because buyers price the profit behind the revenue.
SDE = MRR × 12 × gross margin − (operating costs + marketing) × 12
EBITDA = SDE − founder hours × hourly rate × 52
SDE multiple = size-band base + growth + churn + founder + age + platform + concentration + LTV:CAC + margin (1.5× to 8×)
value = w × SDE × SDE multiple + (1 − w) × ARR × ARR multiple, w = 0 at 10% SDE margin rising to 1 at 40%This page uses the same method as the Micro-SaaS Valuation Calculator, which explains each term and assumption in full.
Worked example
A three-year-old B2B SaaS on $15,000 MRR at $120 a seat-month, growing 3% a month net, with 3% monthly churn, 82% gross margin, $3,000 a month of tools and contractors, $1,500 of ads bringing 12 customers, and a founder working 20 hours a week.
- 1SDE: $93,600 a year, valued at 3.75× = $351,000
- 2Revenue cross-check: $180,000 ARR × 3.67× = $662,000
- 3Estimate, weighted 100% on profit: $351,000
- 4MRR multiple: $351,000 ÷ $15,000 = 23.4×
23.4× MRR, or 1.95× ARR. Across the 8 example businesses on these pages it runs from 8× to 32× MRR.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a standard MRR multiple for selling a SaaS?
No. Brokers quote ranges, but the multiple is an output, not an input: two businesses with the same MRR can sell for very different prices because one keeps 60% of revenue as profit and the other 10%. On this site's examples it runs from 8× to 32× MRR. Margin, churn and growth explain most of the gap.
How do I convert an MRR multiple to an ARR multiple?
Divide by 12. A sale at 36 times MRR is 3 times ARR, since ARR is 12 months of MRR. Brokers for small SaaS quote profit multiples more often than either, so check which one an offer or a listing uses before comparing them.
