Each provider's own CDN: CloudFront, Cloud CDN, Front Door, Cloudflare or Spaces CDN.

Traffic inside the cloud

How is cloud data transfer billed?

As of September 28, 2026, on Google Cloud internet egress from North America starts at $0.12 per GB; Cloud CDN starts at $0.08 per GB; and a Cloud NAT costs $0.0014 an hour per VM plus $0.045 per GB processed. Your bill is each traffic type's gigabytes times its rate, tier by tier, plus any hourly charges.

monthly = tiered(internet egress) + CDN delivery + misses × origin fetch + inter-region GB × rate + cross-AZ GB × rate + NAT gateways × hourly × 730 + NAT GB × processing rate

This page uses the same method as the Cloud Egress Cost Calculator, which explains each term and assumption in full.

Worked example

A workload in North America on Google Cloud: 10 TB a month to the internet, 500 GB to another region, 1,000 GB across zones, 500 GB through NAT, on 3 servers.

  1. 1Internet egress: $1,137
  2. 2Inter-region: $10.00
  3. 3Cross-AZ: $10.00
  4. 4NAT gateway hours: $3.07
  5. 5NAT data processed: $22.50
  6. 6Total: $1,182 a month

$1,182 a month on Google Cloud, $14,185 a year. The cheapest cloud listed that runs servers, DigitalOcean, would cost $0.00 a month.

Frequently asked questions

What does Google Cloud charge for bandwidth?

At list prices, internet egress from North America starts at $0.12 per GB; Cloud CDN starts at $0.08 per GB; and a Cloud NAT costs $0.0014 an hour per VM plus $0.045 per GB processed. Premium Tier rates by destination, Google's default. Standard Tier costs less ($0.085 per GB to 10 TB from North America, with 200 GB free) but routes over the public internet. Cloud NAT is billed per VM served, $0.0014 an hour each, capped at 32 VMs.

Should I use Google's Standard Tier to save on egress?

It costs less: Standard Tier from North America is $0.085 per GB up to 10 TB with 200 GB free, against $0.12 for the first TB on Premium Tier. The trade-off is routing: Standard Tier traffic leaves Google's network near your region and crosses the public internet, so users far from it see more latency. It also works only with regional load balancers. For global users, Cloud CDN on Premium Tier is usually the cheaper path.
