Music & Audio Calculators

Studio maths for gear that has no sync button. The BPM to ms calculator turns one tempo into a matrix of straight, dotted and triplet note values from 2 bars down to 1/64, in milliseconds for delay pedals and outboard units and in hertz for LFOs and modular clocks. It also suggests tempo-locked reverb pre-delay and decay times for a hall, room or tight ambience, and gives the length of any number of bars in seconds and samples at 44.1, 48 or 96 kHz for chopping loops. Tap the tempo in, click a value to copy it, and every page keeps its settings in the link. There are pages for delay times, LFO rates, reverb pre-delay and sample length, and ready-made tables for common tempos from 60 to 174 BPM.

Questions about music & audio calculators

How do I convert BPM to milliseconds?

Divide 60,000 by the BPM to get one quarter note: 120 BPM is 500 ms. Halve it for an eighth note, multiply by 1.5 for a dotted note and by 2/3 for a triplet. The BPM to ms calculator lists every note value at once.

How do I set a reverb pre-delay to tempo?

Use a short note value, such as a 1/64 note for a hall or 1/128 for a room, so the reverb starts just after the dry sound and stays out of its way. The reverb pre-delay calculator gives pre-delay and decay for four spaces at your tempo.
