How long is a beat at 150 BPM?
At 150 BPM a quarter note lasts 400 ms (60,000 ÷ 150). An eighth is 200 ms, a dotted eighth 300 ms, a sixteenth 100 ms and a sixteenth triplet 66.67 ms. A one-beat LFO runs at 2.5 Hz, and one 4/4 bar lasts 1,600 ms.
quarter note (ms) = 60 000 ÷ BPM; note = quarter × q;
dotted = note × 1.5; triplet = note × 2/3; rate (Hz) = 1000 ÷ ms;
bar = quarter × beats × 4 ÷ unit; samples = seconds × sample rateThis page uses the same method as the BPM to MS Calculator, which explains each term and assumption in full.

Worked example
A hardstyle track at 150 BPM with a reverse reverb into the drop
- 1Quarter note: 60,000 ÷ 150 = 400 ms
- 2Eighth note: 400 ÷ 2 = 200 ms; dotted: 200 × 1.5 = 300 ms
- 3Sixteenth triplet: 100 × 2/3 = 66.67 ms
- 4LFO once per beat: 1000 ÷ 400 = 2.5 Hz
- 5Hall reverb: pre-delay 1/64 = 25 ms, decay 3,175 ms to end on 2 bars
At 150 BPM: 400 ms quarter, 300 ms dotted eighth, 66.67 ms sixteenth triplet, 2.5 Hz per beat.
Frequently asked questions
What is the dotted eighth delay time at 150 BPM?
300 ms. An eighth note at 150 BPM is 200 ms, and a dot adds half again: 200 × 1.5 = 300 ms. The dotted quarter is twice that, 600 ms, and the plain quarter 400 ms.
What music is made at 150 BPM?
Mostly hardstyle, Jersey club and fast trap. 150 BPM is a hardstyle and fast trap tempo, with a 400 ms quarter note. At this speed short notes become very short: a 1/32 triplet is about 33 ms, closer to a doubling effect than an audible echo, so producers use eighths and quarters for rhythmic delay.
What is 150 BPM in half time and double time?
Half time is 75 BPM, with a 800 ms quarter note; double time is 300 BPM, with a 200 ms quarter note. A delay set to a quarter note at 150 BPM is a half note in double time and an eighth note in half time, so it stays in sync either way.
