How is a micro-SaaS valued?
A Notion template membership earning $5,000 a month at 92% margin, with 7% monthly churn, is worth about $76,500 (1.5× SDE). Margins are excellent, but high churn, a small size band and reliance on Notion's gallery and the creator's audience keep it near the bottom of the range.
SDE = MRR × 12 × gross margin − (operating costs + marketing) × 12
EBITDA = SDE − founder hours × hourly rate × 52
SDE multiple = size-band base + growth + churn + founder + age + platform + concentration + LTV:CAC + margin (1.5× to 8×)
value = w × SDE × SDE multiple + (1 − w) × ARR × ARR multiple, w = 0 at 10% SDE margin rising to 1 at 40%This page uses the same method as the Micro-SaaS Valuation Calculator, which explains each term and assumption in full.
Worked example
A Notion and no-code template business sold as a $12 a month membership, earning $5,000 a month, growing 2% with 7% monthly churn, 92% margin, almost no costs and 10 hours a week of new templates and social posts.
- 1ARR: $60,000; gross profit at 92%: $55,200
- 2SDE: $55,200 − $6,000 of costs and marketing = $49,200
- 3Base multiple for SDE of under $50k: 2.5×
- 4Adjustments: churn 6 to 10% a month −0.80; platform risk: moderate −0.30; lTV:CAC 3 or more +0.25; one to two years of history −0.20; gross margin 80% or more +0.10
- 5SDE multiple: 1.55×, so $49,200 × 1.55× = $76,500
- 6Revenue cross-check: 1.4× ARR = $85,500; weight on profit 100%
About $76,500, within $51,500 to $101,000: 15.3× MRR, and 4.2× EBITDA after paying $31,200 a year for the founder's hours.
Frequently asked questions
Can I value one-off template sales with this calculator?
Approximately. Enter average monthly sales over the last 12 months as MRR, and a churn rate that reflects how quickly sales would fall if you stopped launching new templates, often 8 to 15% a month. Buyers discount one-off sales below subscriptions, because next year's revenue depends on new products.
What makes a template business worth more?
Revenue that does not depend on the founder's personal brand. Search traffic, an email list that transfers with the sale, a membership rather than one-off sales and a catalogue that keeps selling without new launches all raise the multiple. A business built on the creator's own social following is hard to transfer and sells for less.
What multiple does a Notion template business sell for?
For the business on this page, about 1.5× SDE, or 15× MRR: $76,500 on $5,000 of MRR and $49,200 of annual SDE. Change the inputs above to your own figures; churn, growth and founder hours move the multiple most.
