How Thailand's threshold is built

  • Savings: THB 500,000
  • Stay: 5-year multiple-entry visa, 180 days per entry, extendable once

Beyond the money

  • The balance must sit in your own account; many embassies want it held for the last 3 months.
  • Proof of remote work, or of a qualifying 'soft power' activity such as a Muay Thai course.

How the Thailand DTV Visa Savings Calculator works

Required = Base + Family add-ons, Base = k × Indicator (or a fixed amount), Margin = Income × FX ÷ Required − 1

This page uses the same method as the Digital Nomad Visa Eligibility Checker, which explains each term and assumption in full.

Worked example

A remote worker with $16,000 in savings applying for Thailand's Destination Thailand Visa (DTV).

  1. 1The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) has no income test; it asks for THB 500,000 held in your own account
  2. 2At THB 33.48 per US dollar (ECB, 2026-09-24), $16,000 is THB 535,684
  3. 3That is 7% above the requirement

They clear Thailand's requirement, but by under 10%, so a currency move or a lean month could put them under it.

Frequently asked questions

How much income do I need for the Thailand Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) in 2026?

There is no income test: you need THB 500,000 in savings. The balance must sit in your own account; many embassies want it held for the last 3 months.

Does the DTV have an income requirement?

No. It asks for a balance of at least 500,000 baht in your own account, usually shown in six months of statements with the balance held for the last three. The calculator uses the savings you enter.

Can the savings be in dollars or euros?

Yes. Embassies accept foreign currency equivalent to 500,000 baht on the statement date, so a weak baht works in your favour.

How is the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) taxed?

Foreign income brought into Thailand in a year you are resident (180+ days) can be taxed.
