How the Solar Panel Import Duty Calculator India works

AV = (FOB + F + I) × R; BCD = AV × b; AIDC = AV × a; SWS = (BCD + AIDC) × s; IGST = (AV + BCD + AIDC + SWS) × g

This page uses the same method as the India Import Duty Calculator, which explains each term and assumption in full.

Frequently asked questions

What is the HS code for solar panels (pv modules)?

Usually 8541 43 00: "Photovoltaic cells assembled in modules or made up into panels". The last digits can change with material, power or use, and the duty can change with them, so check the full heading against your product before filing.

What changed for solar modules in Budget 2025?

The 40% BCD on modules was split into 20% BCD and 20% AIDC, and SWS was removed, so the headline duty stayed about the same. IGST on modules then fell to 5% with GST 2.0 in September 2025. Together they still add roughly 47% to the assessable value.

Can imported panels be used for PM Surya Ghar?

Only if the model is on MNRE's Approved List of Models and Manufacturers, which in practice means Indian-made modules. Imported panels suit private and export-linked projects, not subsidised rooftops.
