How do Latin America and India compare?

For the same SaaS project, a team in Latin America comes to about $119,000 and a team in India about $77,000, a saving of 36% in India. That includes the extra 12% of hours for coordinating across time zones.

build = Σ features (hours × complexity × stack) + screens × 10 h + integrations × 32 h + 40 h setup total = discovery + design + build + 10% hardening + QA % + DevOps + PM (12% + time-zone overhead) cost = Σ role hours × regional rate × agency tier; likely = cost × (1 + contingency) sprints = 1 + ⌈build ÷ (developers × 40 h × weeks × 0.8)⌉ + hardening

This page uses the same method as the Software Development Cost Estimator, which explains each term and assumption in full.

Worked example

A B2B SaaS product on Next.js: 25 screens, team accounts, roles, Stripe subscriptions, an admin panel, notifications and a reporting dashboard, three integrations, custom UI/UX and standard QA. Priced at mid-market rates in Latin America and India, 15% contingency included.

  1. 1Latin America: 2,229 hours at a blended $54 an hour = $119,000
  2. 2India: 2,383 hours at a blended $32 an hour = $77,000
  3. 3Coordination overhead: 4% of hours in Latin America, 12% in India

A team in India costs $42,500 less, 36% below a team in Latin America, for the same hours.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between nearshore and offshore?

Nearshore teams work within a few hours of your time zone (Latin America for US clients, Eastern Europe for Western Europe), so they can join your meetings in real time. Offshore teams are far enough away that the working days barely overlap, as India and South-East Asia are for the US. Nearshore costs more per hour and needs less coordination.

When is nearshore worth the higher rate?

When requirements change week to week, when designers and developers need to pair with your team, or when quick responses to production issues matter during your business day. For well-specified work with clear acceptance criteria, offshore delivers the same result for less.
